Artificial flowers for home decor

Artificial flowers are imitations of natural flowers produced by humans for the most part for decorative purposes. Artificial flowers are made from a variety of materials including silk, paper, wax, plastic and more.

In this article we will briefly describe the development of the use of artificial flowers, what are their advantages and disadvantages and more.

A lot of investment is required to weave and arrange together fresh flowers to create bouquets and flower arrangements that will serve the purposes outlined above. Since flowers usually wither within a few days, most certainly after being harvested, repeated investment is required to create bouquets and fresh flower arrangements as needed.

Artificial flowers from the moment they are created and woven together will last for a long time, even many years.

Natural flowers
As skillfully crafted as artificial flowers are they will never be able to fully resemble fresh real flowers. In fact, those who work in the field of artificial flowers do not claim that their works are intended to replace natural flowers but to be used alongside them.

In many flower shops today you can find artificial flower arrangements alongside the classic flower arrangements and the combined bouquets (where flowers and other products such as chocolate, wine, stuffed animals, decorative utensils and more are arranged together).

The creation of artificial flowers has developed in parallel in many cultures around the world. The Japanese are considered to excel in creating artificial flowers from paper (as part of the art of Japanese paper folding known as origami).

In ancient Rome it was customary to make artificial flowers from precious metals, silver and gold. In South America feathers, wax and oysters were used for this purpose. In Italy the use of silk has become very common to this day.
Today comfortable modern materials are also used such as plastic, nylon, mini fabrics and more.

Flowers are one of nature's most spectacular creations. No wonder humans have been using flowers for a long time. Flowers are used by us for expressing sensitive messages (such as romantic statements of intent or expressing condolences to mourners), they help create a desired atmosphere at events (for example, flower arrangements are always used in banquet halls where weddings are held) and more.

The obvious advantage of artificial flowers over regular flowers is that they do not wither. While some of them are manufactured so that they slowly lose their beauty, they will be covered in dust, their colors may fade and eventually even crumble. However there is still no doubt that they will be able to serve us for a much longer time than a bouquet of fresh flowers that will end up in a few days.

The disadvantage of artificial flowers is that they will never be able to completely resemble natural flowers, something in the mirror will always betray them in the end and then for the most part this will involve some disappointment. Another disadvantage is that their price may be several times higher than that of a bouquet of natural flowers.
